Children feel important when given responsibilities, this makes them becomes a self-reliance, individual, as they grow up.

Toddlers and Preschoolers are happy, when they are allowed to help around the house with the simplest chores. At this age they find helping exciting, they imitate or copy by observing what others do.  By the time, they grow up into a preschooler, their hand-eye coordination would have improved, and be able to manage a lot, taking up responsibilities, as a teenager. 

Although Parent are often discouraged to assigned chores to toddlers and children because of their playful habits, which may eventually add to the task, making it a more complex job for parents. But it’s important to know that, our guidance and attention is being needed, especially with toddlers and preschoolers, having it in mind that we are only training and developing their skills, which will eventually be to our advantage as they grow up.

At primary schooler age, they may start rebelling, trying to be independence. Parents need to be patience and consistence with what is expected of them to do around the house.

Let us look into the list of chores which is appropriate for their age.

Toddlers (Age 2-3)

·         Fill up pet foody bowl

·         Wipe up spills

·         Picking and putting their toys away

·         Help to mop small area with a dry mop, especially after meal

·         Help collect their dirty cloth

Preschoolers

(Ages 4-5)

·         As of above

·         Clear the table

·         Pull weed

·         Load the dish washer

·         Make their bed

·         Water the indoor flower

·         Wash plastic dish with supervision

·         Assist in setting and clearing the table

·         Help to sort different colors for Laundering

·         Care for an animal food and water

Primary Schooler (6-9)

·         As of above

·         Sweeping

·         Rake the yard

·         Put away groceries

·         Load and empty the dishwater or drain

·         Make simple breakfast themselves

·         Fold and put away laundry

·         Take family dog for a walk in the compound with supervision

·         Mop the Floor

·         Empty indoor trash bins

·         Clean microwave

Middle Schoolers (Age 10-13)

·         As of above

·         Wash the dishes or load the dishwasher without supervision

·         Wash the family Car

·         Use Cloth washer and dryer

·         Prepare easy meal

·         Empty the trash

·         Babysit younger siblings with parents around

High Schoolers (Age 14+)

·         As of above

·         Clean the fridge/freezer

·         Help clean Kitchen (appliances and cabinet)

·         Help clean the toilet, sink and shower in the bathroom

·         Help clean the windows

·         Help babysit younger siblings independently (for short period)

·         Care for pets

·         Prepare more complex meal

·         Accomplish small zshopping trips alone

·         Iron clothes

·         Help with simple home or auto repairs

·         Supervise siblings’ chores
